A lot of folks have asked: 'Why Okemo'.
Simple: don't need all the hoopla that Stratton or Killington areas offer. Don't get me wrong, there's great skiing in both of them, but no better 'conditions' than Okemo. The Muellers and their partners have done everything possible to mitigate bad weather causing problems, short of cutting a deal with Him. Maybe they did, come to think of it! LOL. But me? I like the quiet little towns surrounding me.
Truth is, story goes like this: I took about eight years off from skiing, just work, work work and boat, boat, boat. My good friend Carlo says one day "Bro, you've got to do something in winter besides wait for summer!" and I said 'Nope, no time". Well, he took me to Wyndham for a day trip, I took one look at the mountain, smelled the air, rode the lift and immediately dislocated my shoulder first run! No kidding, but Carlo was used to popping it back, we skied all day and the next day, I awoke at 2 a.m., and got on the road. Called him & said 'Where?" and he said 'Okemo'. That's it.
Stayed in a local B&B for two years, had steady room and first home that came up for sale near it, I purchased. Rest is history and I'll never leave. It's my emotional 'home', although I loved growing up on the 'Jersey Shore. Vermont is just another world...and it's 'good for your heart and soul'. My parents had many nice visits the last few years of their lives, in fact, just months before Dad passed they were up for 'leaf peeping' and let's just say, it was quite an emotional time for them and I. I'll never forget it.
Make some memories up here with your fam or just make them somewhere. Trust me, time slips away and you won't be thinking about the 'work you didn't do' if He calls you...just what you did. So 'do it'. Everyday.
